Community POP aims to develop affordable, short-term housing options in the City of Vancouver through the temporary habitation of vacant or underutilized lots. These pop-up communities will prioritize ecologically sustainable housing systems that meet Greenest City Action Plans, and will target populations at risk of homelessness. They will promote tenant health and benefit surrounding neighbourhoods through “neighbourhood give-back” projects that are negotiated collaboratively and engage community members in socially beneficial work throughout the duration of vacancy. Community POP aims to work cooperatively with municipal staff and Council, and seeks partnerships with established organizations such as the BC Tiny House Collective, Unused Terrain, BC Housing and YWCA to develop a pilot community proposal in alignment with the City of Vancouver’s Housing Reset Strategy.
