A FEW WORDS FROM:

MILEY LEONG 梁伟祺, OUR ENGAGEMENT CONSULTING MANAGER

Happy New Gregorian Year! Our team is back after our annual winter office closure and we hope that you were able to access some rest, whatever that may look like, during the last weeks of 2024.

A new year can bring a sense of energy and momentum. Lucky for me, I get to celebrate the new year twice - the Gregorian New Year as well as the Lunar New Year.

I'm reflecting a lot on the lessons that the Year of the Snake can offer us. Snake brings with it the medicine of release and renewal. With what is sure to be a rollercoaster year ahead for civic engagement, I'm centering the lessons of release and renewal with me. What old stories do we need to release and put behind? What new stories of transformation do we want to (re)tell for 2025?

As we dive back into the pace of projects and programming, we're looking forward to cultivating more stories of youth-led action and leadership.

CONSULTING UPDATES

YOUTH ENGAGEMENT MATTERS!

In December, we closed out the year with a fantastic webinar for the Planning Institute of British Columbia. Our Engagement Consulting Manager, Miley, was part of a panel on Accessibility and Inclusion and shared some key insights on youth engagement for planning professionals to consider in their practice.

Interested in levelling up your skills in engaging young people? Book us for a professional development training or to speak at your next event!

As we settle into the first few weeks of 2025, we’re feeling so excited about the engagement consulting work we have on the horizon. We can’t wait to share what’s in the works in the weeks to come!

PROGRAM UPDATES

CITYSHAPERS IN SCHOOLS HIGHLIGHTS

Renewal and transformation brought on by the year of the snake is indeed the motto for CityShapers in Schools since the program team is transitioning into a new era of leadership in the coming month. Workshops will continue engaging students across the region in critical reflections and explorations of place, power, positionality and future-building, with a significant new uptake in elementary bookings this coming year. With many plans seeded for the coming Spring bloom, this new year will bring in a new program leader who we’re excited to introduce you to.
Keep an eye out for our whereabouts, and in meantime, check out some Fall activity highlights!

CITYSHAPERS IN COMMUNITIES HIGHLIGHTS

Looking forward to programming kicking back up! After a successful opening season for CSiC, we look forward to continuing programming in the winter/spring.
