Mackenzie Kuenz
CityShapers in Communities Coordinator
Mackenzie (she/her) grew up on Tsuut’ina and W̱SÁNEĆ territories and now lives on the traditional and stolen territories of the Xʷməθkʷəy̓əm, Səl̓ilwətaɁɬ, and Sḵwx̱wú7mesh Nations. She studied an interdisciplinary Bsc degree specializing in Climate Justice and Resilient Communities with a regional focus in Latin America at the University of British Columbia, University of Victoria, Universidade Federal da Bahia, and Universidade Federal Fluminense. Mackenzie is passionate about education and empowering youth to create innovative solutions and initiatives that challenge the status quo and harmful systems. She is the co-founder and co-director of Ritmos Climáticos an organization mobilizing culture for climate justice through events, campaigns, and a digital community. She speaks Spanish and Portuguese and has close ties to communities in Latin America where she has studied and collaborated on community engagement projects. She believes that transnational solidarity is key to the climate movement, especially due to Canada’s position as an extractive giant on Indigenous and Global South Territories. Her happy place is in the sun at the beach by the water. She loves her community and dancing.
